We will be sharing some of those facts right here in the blog.
The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is the largest flower show in the world – it is only second nationally to the Chelsea Flower Show. Now celebrating its 28th anniversary, the show was created by management consultant Adrian Boyd, the show was created to join together two organisations; Historic Royal Palaces and Network SouthEast, and to deliver a fantastic floral experience.
The original idea was that Network Southeast should sponsor a flower show at Hampton Court, and thanks to this sponsorship they could provide public transport. This was well received, and the first Hampton Court Palace Flower Show was held in July 1990. The first RHS Hampton Court Show took place in 1993, but two years prior the 1991 show saw the inception of the British Rose Festival alongside the Royal National Rose Society and the British Rose Growers’ Association.
The displays themselves bring together creative and whimsical ideas that never fail to delight the public – you can see aerial lawns and even Winnie the Pooh playing on a bridge in some incarnations. Each year there is an award for The Best Exhibit of all the floral marquees. These gold medals are highly sought after, and winners for recent years include Fir Trees Pelargonium Nursery in 2013, Todd’s Botanic in 2014 and Vacherot et Lecoufle in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
This year the flower show will be taking place on 3rd – 8th July.
