There is no place quite like this stunning area along the River Thames and with so many picturesque places to choose from, picking out the best alfresco dining spots can be quite the task.
The wonderful team at The Mitre, one of the finest hotels Hampton Court has to offer, know this stunning area like the back of their hands, so we have brought you their pick of the best picnic spots in Hampton Court…
This park was the hunting ground of Henry VIII once upon a time and today is the second largest of the royal parks. Whether you want to keep the children entertained by laying your blanket near to its huge playground with three slides, massive sandpit and climbing frames aplenty or if you would prefer some peace and quiet, then there are hundreds of spots to get away from it all. You may even spot the resident parrots and deer.
Hampton Court Park offers the perfect natural environment for setting up a picnic with an open expanse of swaying grassland scattered with large oak trees. Whilst you are there you can take a stroll through the lively fountains and beautiful gardens towards Hampton Court Palace itself, the historic home of Henry VIII. A majestic and historic picnic location.
Although this is a subsection of Bushy Park, we had to highlight these lovely gardens as they are not to be missed! The Woodland Gardens are the perfect location for a picnic and act as an oasis for local families. Not only can you park right outside, you can pick up a great snack from the Pheasantry Cafe’s takeaway menu if you didn’t have time to pack your own picnic! There is also a large duck filled pond, wild parrots and plenty of pretty bridges to throw pooh sticks with the kids.
The Magic Garden was opened earlier this year and features a life size dragon, hidden nooks and crannies for kids to explore, slides, aerial walk ways and a humongous sand and water play area. This garden will certainly have something to entertain everyone. It is also enclosed which means your children can run wild without you having to worry about them!
Although it isn’t technically part of Hampton, we couldn’t help but include this lovely park which is only 3 miles away. Richmond Park is the largest of London’s eight Royal Parks and the biggest enclosed space in London. You are bound to be able to find a special spot to settle down for an alfresco meal. If that’s not enough, within the park there is also the beautiful Isabella Plantation, Pembroke Lodge and herds of Red and Fallow deer.
