Interior Inspiration
Stylish and comfortable
A key feature of the new Mitre Hotel is the stunning interiors from designer Nicola Harding.
With a clear mission to create places rich in soulfulness and atmosphere, Nicola’s commercial projects include boutique hotels The Garden House at Beaverbrook in Surrey, and The Rose Hotel in Deal. Nicola also has private client work spanning listed townhouses, country homes and houseboats for film directors, artists and families of all shapes and sizes. Nicola instinctively designs indoor and outdoor spaces that function effectively and flow from one to the other.
The inspiration behind The Mitre’s interior design is country house meets the joy and colour of Britain’s boating tradition – think Wind-in-the-Willows does Henley Regatta.
The history of the building itself and the surroundings was inspiring. The palace and river are obvious treasure troves, but neighbouring Bushy Park also offered up rich pickings for the interior design team. The deer park was originally a royal hunting ground and we have referenced that with historical sporting memorabilia dotted through the building.
Wrap your head around the room names. There are 40 bedrooms, all with different names, all in some way significant to the history or the location of the hotel. Also take in the map which we commissioned – not only a work of art, it tells guests about the local area and is an insight into the many things there are to do from the doorstep. The talented artist - Gwen Burns – is an all-time favourite of mine.
The Lounge is also an ethereal space, distinguished by de Gournay wallpaper. The Orangery, a riot of plant-filled fun.
Come and visit, take some pictures, get inspired and relax in the surroundings.
